This 5-day immersive cooking experience gives you the opportunity to discover the best of Basque Country, Rioja and Cantabria combining cooking, tasting wonderful wine and exploring breath-taking places such as the fishing village of Castro Urdiales, the contemporary  city of Bilbao, the gastronomic reference of San Sebastian and the rolling vineyards of Rioja.

The uniqueness of our immersive experiences is that you will be staying with us in our luxury guest-house where we will cook in our wide kitchen using our own vegetable and herbs. FULL ITINERARY:

DAY 1: ARRIVAL - WINE TASTING - BASQUE DINNER

  • We will pick you up at the airport/train station 

  • We will drive to Castro Urdiales where you will be able to settle down in your bedrooms and maybe grab a quick swim or jacuzzi to release all your stress from the long journey

  • 5pm Tutored Wine Tasting: you will learn all about viticulture – the look, feel, smell and taste of different wines.  It will be a dynamic and fun experience, where you will learn to understand your own sense of smell, face aroma quizzes and test your overall skill with blind tastings. Learn all the secrets of our regional local wines.

  • 7pm Basque dinner menu: We will prepare a traditional dinner with products such as chorizo cooked in cider, Iberian ham, prawns, local cheeses, and the award winning ‘txuleta steak’. The txuleta is probably one of the finest steaks in the world, bearing its own unique characteristics.​ All food will be prepared in a traditional way, cooked over burning hot coals and in our wood-fired ovens. Along the way, we will share our cooking secrets and techniques.

Cooking Class

DAY 2: COOKING CLASS & VISIT TO CASTRO URDIALES

  • At 9 pm fresh breakfast will be served

  • After breakfast we will start our hands-on cooking class. Get ready to learn some of the traditional Basque dishes and pintxos (The Basque tapas). We will cook scallops, marmitako (the most famous Basque dishe), cod with piperrada, gildas and the famous Basque Cheese cake. Open bar for local wines.

  • After cooking we will eat these delicious dishes and we will head to Castro Urdiales for a relaxing and memorable walking tour around this town that breathes peace. We will walk along the promenade, the port, the castle and the church from the 13th century. 

  • Free time for you to explore this town which has a wonderful vibe at night plenty of bars and restaurants

DAY 3: VISIT SAN SEBASTIAN WITH LUNCH IN A CIDER HOUSE

  • At 9 pm fresh breakfast will be served

  • At 10am we will head to San Sebastian to discover the amazing history of this wonderful city and to explain you why it is still today considered the Spanish aristocratic city by excellence

  • You will visit the atmospheric Old Town, the elegant ‘Petit France’ , the vast sweep of La Concha Beach and the Comb of the Wind designed by the famous sculpture Eduardo Chillida

  • For lunch we will take you to one of the most authentic and fun experiences in Northern Spain, the cider houses. Taste our cider that has helped our sailors to be as strong as vikings during centuries. The menu will be T-bone steak cooked in open fire, chorizo cooked in cider, cod omelette and Idiazabal cheese with walnuts and quince. *And as much cider as you want!

DAY 4: DISCOVERING THE RIOJA WINE REGION

  • At 9 pm fresh breakfast will be served

  • After breakfast we will head to what is for sure the most beautiful and emblematic wine region of Spain, La Rioja.

  • We will take you to three different wineries with its own uniquenesses. Get ready to taste at least 9 wines rated over 90+ Parker points

  • For lunch we will arrange for you a charming picnic in one of the wineries. A lifetime memory meal, that is for sure.

  • Our 4th day of our immersive cooking & gastronomic experience in Basque Country will take you for a walk through the beautiful walled, medieval city of LaGuardia, with its underground cellars and wineries. 

DAY 5: VISIT BILBAO & THE GUGGENHEIM

  • At 9 pm fresh breakfast will be served

  • After breakfast we will head to the vibrant city of Bilbao where you will have a 1.5 hour private visit to the contemporary Guggenheim museum by one of our official guides. This museum is the emblema of the Basque Country with pieces of art from renowned artists such as Andy Warhol, Jeff Koons or the number one Basque sculptor Eduardo Chillida.

  • We will explore the colourful Old Town of Bilbao and  visit the Ribera Food Market

  • We will have lunch in the Old Town with a selection of the best pintxos

  • Our 5-day gastronomic experience will finish at 4pm where we will leave you at the airport/ train station of Bilbao
