Wine Tour

Visit Spain’s must-visit wine region, home to over 140 wineries and some of the most famous brands in the world.

INCLUDES: Accommodation in boutique hotels 4 * or higher. Visits to 11 wineries. A wine therapy session. Breakfast, lunch and dinner in quality restaurants, some with a Michelin Star. Private transport in a 4x4 Range Rover Sport or Mercedes Viano.

At Northern Spain Gastronomy, we have created a Rioja wine tour through the famous wine region, in order to enjoy its incredible gastronomy and vineyard-carpeted landscape.

This part of La Rioja is famous for its ecotourism, the quality of its wines, the picturesque hilltop medieval villages, and its Neolithic monuments. In addition, it has an interesting culture of traditional cuisine, which is based on fresh garden produce, olive oil, cheeses, pork, beef and lamb.

La Rioja is home to more than 140 wineries, of all different types. At NSG, our Rioja wine tour focus more on the small traditional wineries with low levels of production and high quality wines. In addition, we will explore the best food pairings, and activate all our senses. All the hotels we stay at on the tour are dedicated to the wine experience.

*This Rioja wine tour can be adapted to your specific preferences and requirements.

  • Haro is La Rioja’s wine capital, home to some of the region’s best and famous wineries. It’s filled with historic honey-coloured architecture and surrounded by green and russet vineyards.

  • We will visit two wineries, each with a tasting: one with very small exclusive production and the other to the oldest winery in the town.

  • Lunch will be in a traditional restaurant with a full Riojan menu and, of course, the best wine to accompany.

  • After lunch, our Rioja wine tour will continue with a walk around Haro, visiting some of its most emblematic squares and buildings.

  • Dinner will be a quality restaurant with traditional, yet creative cuisine.

  • Stay in a hotel dedicated to wine, with a tasting included.

  • On day two of our Rioja wine tour, we will visit the celebrated Marqués de Riscal, designed by the architect Frank Gehry, who was responsible for designing the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.

  • We will continue with a wine and cheese tasting in a Chateau-style wine cellar, where religious tradition is mixed with wine.

  • Next, we tour the town of El Ciego, stopping for lunch along the way. Surrounded by verdant vineyards, El Ciego is an important wine town, with a historic centre of national and artistic heritage.

  • Visit the historic cave wineries and production facilities, where the wine is made and aged.

  • Stay in hotel dedicated to wine, with dinner and a tasting included.

  • Day three of our Rioja wine tour takes us to Laguardia. We will spend some time walking through this medieval town, to discover its hidden underground treasure and admire its beautiful architecture. Laguardia is considered to be one of the most beautiful villages in Spain.

  • Visit a traditional winery, whose winemaking history goes back five generations.

  • Lunch at one of the most acclaimed restaurants in La Guardia, with a full menu and wine.

  • Tour the village of Laguardia, marvelling at its historic stone architecture, maze of narrow streets and magnificent mountainous backdrops.

  • Dine and stay in a 16th century mansion, located within the old town walls of Laguardia, which is dedicated to the world of wine.

  • Visit the magnificent monasteries of San Millán de la Cogolla, dating back to the 6th and 11th centuries, and tour the stunning city of Nájera.

  • Lunch at a fine dining restaurant with tasting menu and full wine pairing.

  • Walk through the Sierra Cebollera Natural Park, a forested nature reserve filled with many different types of trees, as well as foxes, wild boar, otters and several birds of prey.

  • Dine and stay in a hotel dedicated entirely to wine – there are even wine therapy rituals in the spa.

  • Visit the town of Labraza, the smallest fortified town in the Basque Country, and one of the best preserved in the world.

  • Visit a ‘trujal’, where extra virgin olive oil has been made since 1940.

  • Tour one of the smallest (just 1500 bottles a year) and most unique vineyards in La Rioja. Here, we will see how they focus on biodynamic wine production.

  • Enjoy tapas and pintxos in the vibrant capital of the Rioja region – Logroño. Here we will go on a pintxos crawl down the famous Calle Laurel to sample some of its best bites.

  • After lunch, we will tour Logroño to see its colourful houses, magnificent churches and elegant bridges.

  • Dine and stay in luxurious 16th-century mansion hotel.

  • Walk through the city of Vitoria i Gasteiz, one of the greenest city in Europe, due to the green belt surrounding its historic and graceful centre.

  • Enjoy local pintxos or dine in a select restaurant, depending on the time and day of the week, so we can make the most of what the city has to offer.
